You Are DPTV

My wife and I have been contributing to Channel 56 for almost 40 years. We do not have cable and we like the Create Channel and the 3 [digital] channel idea...

 Create 56.3

[Editor’s note:

Viewers of Channel 56.3 CREATE have the opportunity to support this service of “How-To” shows (crafting, cooking, home improvement, and travel) between Monday, 3/25 - Saturday, 3/30.  If you are one of the 200,000 people a week who are also enjoying CREATE, keep 56.3 on the air and please call in to 1-800-859-9887 or click and pledge for CREATE! ]

...Whenever possible we watch Rick Steves and we were lucky enough to see him in person at your station. One of my hobbies is railroading and I appreciate railroad related shows when they appear.

Thank you,

Greetings from Detroit Public TV.

Dear ,

‘Newman’s Own’ challenges DPTV viewers: Double Your Dollars!

Newman's-Own.jpgNewman’s Own Foundation challenges Detroit Public TV viewers to donate on-air or online tonight or tomorrow night.  The independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman will match viewer contributions up to $7,500 tonight (3/21) between 6 and 11 p.m.  Friday, a second challenge will match contributions made by people who sign up to be Sustainers (automatic, ongoing monthly donors), up to $5,000.

“Paul Newman believed that the independent voice played a critical role in making our world a better place,” said Robert Forrester, President of Newman’s Own Foundation. “He was a strong supporter of public broadcasting, and we are proud to maintain that support through our challenge grants at Detroit Public Television.” Read more…

180 Days: A Year Inside an American High School gives an unprecedented first-hand account of life inside of the school reform movement

180-Days.jpgThis series, airing over 2 nights (3/25 & 3/26 at 9pm), takes viewers on a uniquely intimate journey through a year in the lives of students, teachers and school leaders in one Washington, DC public high school. The series is framed by volatile national and local politics aimed at reforming this most fundamental of public institutions, but the lives at the center of "180 Days," most especially those of the five students whose stories take the viewer from the day 1 to day 180, seem at once deeply impacted by and yet profoundly separate from the "Race to the Top."
